BPR was formed out of pure passion. The Father/Son Duo of Rich + Nicky Hays spent several years racing together, Rich was always by Nicky’s side as his mechanic as Nicky navigated the International Go-Kart Racing ranks. However, for 30 years, Rich was an employee of American Honda Motor Company. He was fortunate enough to be contracted by Honda to work in their Factory Race programs. Most notably, the highly Successful Real Time Racing Speed World Challenge program in the Acura Integra Type R Touring Car class. Most notable as the crew Chief to Pierre Kleinebung for his 1st World Challenge Championship in 1996. Alongside The Speed World Challenge, Rich was working in the IMSA Motorola Cup, again as Crew Chief but now with the very well known Honda tuning shop, King Motorsports. And once again Rich found himself back in the Speed World Challenge with the Mugen / King Motorsports Acura RSX Programs in the early 2000s. Rich was able to win several Professional Races and Championships for American Honda throughout the years in World Challenge and IMSA Motorola Cup Competition

Alongside working at American Honda as the head Technician in the Automotive Engineering department, Rich took his own ventures into Club Racing as a driver himself. After autocrossing for several years, Rich built himself a SCCA ITA Prepared Honda CRX. He had been helping several local club racers build and run their cars since starting at Honda, and with his Pro-Racing Knowledge, was able to really help elevate his local clients' builds. With a growing family and little free time, Rich raced as much as time and money could allow, but his SCCA ITA CRX was then converted into the newly formed Honda Challenge H4 class. Through his association with American Honda and his vast experience doing setup and chassis development, Rich became very well known for his knowledge and has become an encyclopedia of knowledge for chassis tuning and theory. Starting as a need for his own program, Rich also did several race engine and gearbox builds throughout the years, and still does all the BPR gearbox and engine assembly.

Once Nicky’s racing career had transitioned from Go-Karting to Professional car racing, Rich found himself with more free time, as he was no longer Nicky’s mechanic. It was just before the Pandemic that Rich had the itch to build another CRX race-car, but this time, with no ruleset, the only objective was going as fast as possible. The recipe: Lightweight as possible. With the best suspension components on the market. This would serve as Nicky’s first experience in any Front Wheel drive car. Up until this point he was well versed in go-karts, Rear wheel drive production cars, and Formula Cars. Then, In March 2020, the Pandemic Hit, and everyone was at Home - the perfect opportunity to finish and run the CRX! The car was only run 2 times in 2020 for shakedown, however by early 2021, the CRX was shaking things up and slashing all track records in sight, with a very simple minimal package. The real star was the MCS 2 way dampers that were on the car. The compliance and body control was unprecedented. In 2022, King Motorsports, who was a long term partner and helped in getting the car initially built, put together a very potent B20 VTEC engine package. This increased the cars output by around 60 wheel horsepower, enough to drop lap times by an additional 3 seconds!

In 2023, the opportunity to build and start developing the S2000 in a track car format presented itself, and in a short amount of time running the BPR MCS 3 way damper package has shown to be very potent with no aero and on street A052 tires. 20 years later and Rich is back chassis tuning Hondas, but now with his Son Nicky at the wheel. As Nicky continues down his path as a Professional Race Driver, the inquiries and requests for how Rich and Nicky built their cars to be so fast, has led to the formation of BPR.

BPR was formed to assist those looking to improve their current street / track day car setup. WIth Rich having a vast background in Chassis tuning and setup in Pro- Racing as a Crew Chief, and Nicky’s high level of Pro-racing background as a Driver and Coach, their combined knowledge and passion is the driving force behind BPR.
